To Making Something from Nothing
Mixed Media on Wood Panel
11x 14 framed to 12.75 x 15.75
2025
If you didn't notice, a lot of my titles sound like some sort of sarcastic toast. Just imagine somebody raising a glass of champagne and saying "Cheers to... [insert title]." Take this piece for instance. It's entitled, "To Making Something from Nothing." An appropriate toast for a startup company or an expectant parent, wouldn't you say?
I had a religious upbringing and was always bothered by the absence of women. God the Father was eternal, Jesus the Son death-defying, and Mary a humble, human female servant. Wouldn't there need to be an equally immortal mother figure? Part of my deconstruction process has been connecting with the symbol of Mother Earth. In my (humble, human, female) opinion, women are not given enough credit for the immense power we hold in our bodies. With the donation of a small seed, we can quite literally MAKE SOMETHING FROM NOTHING, just like Mother Earth.
